Valparaiso University, Institute of Liturgical Studies, Valparaiso, IN

On Monday April 29, 1:00-4:00 as part of the Institute of Liturgical Studies, we’ll open our seminar with a slide show and discussion on the value of making art for (and with) a worshiping community.  Continuing our chat, we will then experience a group project, painting two simple pre-designed silk banners together to be used in our closing worship. NO previous experience required! Find more information on Institute of Liturgical Stuties here, and on our seminar here.

Silk painting is a fun and easily learned process that can be as simple or as intricate as you care to make it. This is a class for all ranges of students; from bare beginners to the most advanced.  Our materials are silk dye, gutta and wax resists, and silk. We’ll study color combinations in nature surrounding us, and use some simple techniques to pull us into a mindset of meditative observation of nature to inspire our creations.
